Rain Barrel Program

Rain Barrels are a form of green infrastructure that capture and store rain water. The largest benefit of rain barrel use is achieved by separating roof runoff from the sewer systems. Installing a rain barrel conserves water and stores rain water for reuse.

In March 2016, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and the City of Palos Hills partnered to offer a free rain barrel to City residents. The goal of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and the City of Palos Hills Rain Barrel Program is to reduce rainwater runoff entering the sewer system, reduce basement backups, sewer overflow, overland flooding, and infiltration and inflow of water into the sanitary sewer system. The District believes the value of keeping water out of the sewer system will benefit the community.

Print and fill out the Order Form to request a free rain barrel. Return the completed order form to City of Palos Hills, City Hall, 10335 S Roberts Road, Palos Hills, IL 60465.

See the Installation Instructions on how to install your rain barrel, or visit the MWRDGC's website at https://www.mwrd.org/irj/portal/anonymous/rainbarrel, which includes a YouTube video.
