The city maintains and operates an extensive sanitary sewer system, which is treated by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
An important part of any Sanitary Sewer system is that only sanitary sewage is placed into the system. Excessive water from storm drains and sump pumps can inundate any sanitary sewer system, and cause overflows of sanitary sewage. This is why it is very important that sump pumps be discharged to your outside lawn, and that any new connections to the sanitary sewer system be inspected by the Public Works department.
Contact the City of Palos Hills regarding problems with drainage features or illegal dumping into the Storm Sewer System. We offer anonymous reporting here.
